Mitcham Industries' Seamap Subsidiary Completes Successful Trials Of Gunlink 3000 On Veritas Vantage
The test was conducted on board the SR/V Veritas Vantage in the North Sea for Veritas Geophysical Corporation (a Veritas DGC Inc. company), the original sponsor of the development program.
GunLink 3000 is the second phase of Seamap's next generation hydrophone acquisition and gun control systems providing high resolution monitoring of up to 512 hydrophones and enhanced timing control of up to 256 seismic guns.
The system places the digitizing and control electronics in the water, close to the source, thus providing enhanced source control and allowing for the use of reduced diameter umbilicals.
"With the success of the GunLink project, we are now poised to implement another key enhancement to the instrumentation on our vessels," said Tor Haugland, vice-president of Marine Acquisition Technology at Veritas. "Source control and monitoring is important to the delivery of high quality 3D and 4D data. Once we identified the need and laid out the specifications, Seamap, through their focus and responsiveness, has developed a system that will put Veritas at the forefront of source technology."
"With the completion of the trials in the North Sea, GunLink 3000 has now completed over 500,000 shots," said Mike Pinnington, managing director of Seamap (UK) Ltd. "The system has proven itself to be reliable in severe weather conditions and we are now moving to full production with confidence."
Seamap designs, manufactures and supports seismic exploration and survey equipment from its three offices in Singapore, Huntsville, Texas and the United Kingdom.
