Acceleware Exits Medical Imaging Market To Increase Focus On Oil And Gas Solutions

CALGARY, Alta. & ZÜRICH, Switzerland -- Acceleware Ltd. has announced that SCANCO Medical AG of Zürich, Switzerland has agreed to acquire a perpetual, non-exclusive license for Acceleware's AxRecon source code. AxRecon is an advanced GPU solution for accelerated image reconstruction on computed tomography (CT) scanners.

Under the license acquisition terms, SCANCO will become the exclusive provider of AxRecon to the medical imaging market. SCANCO intends to continue advancing the product and expand its availability to a wider range of CT scanners.

"AxRecon is an innovative application that enables single and multiple GPU processing for accelerated image reconstruction on our high resolution scanners," said Bruno Koller, chief executive officer of SCANCO Medical AG. "This solution has been successfully employed for many years by select SCANCO customers and we look forward to evolving the solution and making it available to our entire customer base."

Acceleware will retain all intellectual property rights to AxRecon and will continue to use the technology in its high performance computing consulting business for customers outside of the medical imaging market area.
